CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 49 calls from June 12 to June 19, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- one alarm,
- one animal call,
- three assaults,
- four bylaw offences,
- two criminal harassment calls,
- one failure to comply with conditions,
- two frauds,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- three mischiefs,
- four other provincial calls,
- one roadside suspension,
- 20 traffic offenses,
- three traffic collisions,
- one wellbeing check and
- one prisoner.
Costly seat belt stop
On June 18, Yorkton Traffic Services stopped a vehicle in Canora for the driver not wearing a seatbelt. The driver provided a roadside breath sample, which came back as a warning. The driver had his driver licence suspended for 72 hours and their vehicle towed.
Bad spot to dump gravel
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on June 14 to a report that gravel had been dumped on Highway 49 west of Sturgis. Police investigated and learned approximately 18 yards in 2-4-inch size gravel was released covering the highway, and damaging a passing vehicle.
The driver of the heavy truck was charged with loading or driving a vehicle with cargo that dropped or was likely to drop on the public highway. An inspection notice was also issued for the trailer to be inspected to correct any outstanding mechanical deficiencies that may have contributed to the gravel being prematurely released onto the highway.
Dog business
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received an animal complaint in Canora on June 13. The caller reported a dog had defecated on their lawn. The dog’s owner and caller exchanged words on the incident. Police followed up with both parties and mediated the conflict.
Not very neighbourly
On June 13, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated an assault complaint in Preeceville. Police investigated and learned two feuding neighbours assaulted each other and both called police to tell on the other. Both males were charged with assault and placed on conditions not to have contact with each other.
