CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 48 calls from Sept. 5 to Sept. 12; some of which included:
- three 911 Act calls,
- two animal calls,
- one Coroner’s Act call,
- one Child Welfare Act call,
- one disturbing the peace,
- four failures to attend court,
- one false alarm,
- two Fire Prevention Act calls,
- one fraud,
- one lost and found,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- three mischiefs,
- five suspicious persons,
- four thefts,
- one Tobacco Tax Act call,
- 13 traffic offenses,
- two vehicle collisions,
- one wellbeing check, and
- one prisoner.
Business dispute
On Sept. 5, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a harassment complaint in Canora. Police learned one business owner reported the neighboring business owner for harassing their customers. The matter was mediated and the underlining issue was determined to be the shaking of a fist from one party to the other two days prior.
Power tools stolen
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on Sept. 7 of power tools being stolen from a vehicle in Canora. Some of the tools were found discarded in an alleyway by the caller but a DeWalt 20v drill set and batteries are still missing.
Messy call
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a call to remove an intoxicated man from his home after he had soiled himself on Sept 8. Police attended and determined no criminal offence occurred and that the man could stay in his home.
Fishing equipment stolen
On Sept. 9, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP invested a report of fishing equipment being stolen out of a vehicle in Preeceville.
Recycling swiped
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on Sept 11 that four bags of recycling were stolen from the back of a truck on Eighth Avenue East in Canora.
Pallet recovered on highway
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call from a motorist on Highway 9 by Endeavour on Sept. 11 that a forklift pallet bounced out of the back of a truck and trailer. The pallet was recovered by the caller and can be returned to the owner if reported missing.
Please lock vehicles
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP would like to remind the public to lock your vehicle and take your keys. Theft from vehicles is a crime of opportunity. Tips to help prevent thefts from vehicles:
- Shut windows tightly and lock all doors.
- Remove valuables form your vehicle, including spare change and the vehicle keys or fob.
- Park in well-lit areas at night.
