Fire call a hoax

On March 7, a man called 911 to report a house was on fire in Canora. Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to the call and learned there was no fire. RCMP snow dump call

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a call on March 4 to investigate that the caller’s neighbour in Preeceville had shovelled snow onto the caller’s property after a snowstorm.  Police determined no offence occurred and the extra snow had already been removed from the driveway by a snow removal service. Please be courteous to your neighbour and check your local municipalities bylaws if you have questions about the rules of snow removal.

Not keeping in touch

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were requested on March 4 to do a wellbeing check on the caller’s neighbour who had not been seen for a couple of months. Police investigated and determined the man had moved into a continuing care home.

Vehicle parked on highway, towed

On Feb. 29, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an abandoned vehicle parked on the roadway leading into Amsterdam just off Highway 9. The caller reported the vehicle was parked in the driving lane and was a road hazard.  Police attended and the vehicle was towed.  Under section 280(2)(b) of the Traffic Safety Act a vehicle can be towed and impounded if abandoned on the travelled portion of the highway.
