CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from April 11 to April 18, some of which included:
- one assault,
- one careless use of a firearm,
- one criminal harassment,
- two failures to comply with probation,
- one fraud,
- two impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
- one lost and found,
- one Liquor Act call,
- one mischief,
- two other provincial calls,
- one roadside suspension,
- one suspicious person,
- seven traffic offenses,
- three traffic collisions and
- two uttering threats.
Costly drinking spree
On April 11, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP initiated a traffic stop in Sturgis.
The male driver of the vehicle failed a mandatory alcohol screen demand and provided two breath samples of 170mg% and 180mg%. The driver of the vehicle was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while over 80mg%.
The vehicle was seized for 60 days and the male’s drivers’ licence was suspended.
Impaired, shots fired
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a call of shots fired on April 13 in the Donald Gunn Subdivision of Good Spirit Lake.
Police stopped a vehicle in the area and located the driver with an unsecure firearm in the vehicle and open alcohol. The driver failed a mandatory alcohol screening and was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while over 80mg% and careless use of a firearm.
A second vehicle was also stopped in the area and that driver was issued a 72-hour driving suspension after a mandatory alcohol screening demand was made and the driver was found to have a blood alcohol level above 40mg%.
Broken rail crossing light
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a broken light on a rail crossing between Preeceville and Sturgis on April 16. The damage went unreported after being struck by a high load.
Collision due to medical issue
On April 16, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision in Canora. The driver of an SUV had a medical issue and struck a tree. The driver was taken to hospital by EMS.
Probation ignored
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP charged a woman on April 17 with failing to comply with conditions of a probation order. The woman failed to pay $70 restitution after being found guilty of theft in 2023.
Threats attract police
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a threats complaint on April 17. The caller reported threats were exchanged between people in two vehicles. Police made a patrol but were unable to locate either vehicle. The investigation continues.
