CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 44 calls from Aug. 22 to Aug. 28; some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- one animal call,
- one assault,
- one breach of peace,
- one break and enter,
- three bylaw offences,
- one Coroners Act call,
- four disturbing the peace,
- one failure to comply with conditions,
- one false alarm,
- one fraud,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- five mischiefs,
- one offender management,
- one suspicious person,
- one theft,
- one theft of truck,
- 10 traffic offences,
- three uttering threats,
- one wellbeing check, and
- three prisoners.
Mistaken identity
On Aug. 28, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a suspicious person sitting in a car parking in a parking lot in Canora. The caller believed the man in the vehicle, who was on his cell phone, was responsible for a fraud scam call he had just received. Police investigated the matter and determined there was no link between the suspicious person and the fraud call.
Loud muffler reported
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 27 to a mischief call in Preeceville. The caller reported hearing a load muffler and requested police charge the driver with criminal mischief. Police informed the caller that a loud muffler on a passing vehicle is not mischief, however follow-up was made with the registered owner and a warning was given under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations Act of Saskatchewan.
Who is harassing?
A man made a report to the Canora RCMP that he was being harassed by a local business on Aug. 27 after an employee called the police on him for trespassing. The man was provided advice and clarification on what constitutes harassment and was warned he was no longer welcome at the business.
No harm done
On Aug. 27, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report that a man had breached his no contact conditions by driving over wooden stakes that had been placed on a third-party property line. Police investigated and determined the no contact conditions did not apply in this situation.
Truck stolen from farm
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a stolen vehicle complaint in the RM of Invermay on Aug. 22. A white Ford 2008 F3500 1 ton truck with welding equipment on the back was taken from a farm yard. Police continue to investigate
Alcohol-induced disturbance
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 24 to a disturbance in Canora. An intoxicated woman was reported to be hitting family members inside a vehicle. Police attended and arrested the woman for causing a disturbance. The woman was held in custody until sober and was released without charge.
