CANORA - CF Aesthetics recently opened at its Canora location on Main Street next to the Keen Age Centre and things have been busy according to owner/operator Cheyenne Fediuk, who was born and raised in Canora.
“When I do a set of nails or a pedicure on a client, they each have a different style, theme, and trend they are wanting to follow,” said Fediuk “With this in mind, each day is a learning experience within the art and beauty world.”
Services provided at CF Aesthetics include gel nail application and gel pedicure application. She also has a consignment table stocked with a variety of made-in-Canora products, complete with a comfortable seating area where clients can get a close look at what’s available.
“One part of my consignment table consists of ‘Caleigh’s Crystals,’ which is an amazing collection of earrings, necklaces and more,” said Fediuk. “On the other side of my table you will see a selection of homemade pens, refillable perfume containers, ornamental bird houses, fire poker sticks, and other woodwork items. These are made locally by my next-door neighbour.”
The inside of CF Aesthetics has been created as a calming and relaxing atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.
“It is a space people should feel welcomed in. The environment in my shop is very comforting, even when I am there by myself I feel like I can spend all day there! I work very hard to make sure every single client that walks through my doors feel like family and is treated like family as well.”
Fediuk said she is thoroughly enjoys her location in the same building as the Keen Age Centre.
“They celebrated their 50th anniversary this summer! All those who attend the Keen Age Centre are such nice people, always give you a smile or make you feel welcome.”
Fediuk, who grew up in and around Canora, graduated from Canora Composite School in 2022.
“Growing up, I spent a lot of time on my grandparents’ farm. I grew a great interest in gardening, music, the arts, and being with family. I definitely wasn’t the pampered type while I was growing up, and I didn’t even know the difference between a manicure and a pedicure. But over the years I loved to go and get my nails done with my mom or friends. From there I started to look up to my nail technician, and then eventually took my beginners nail course and pedicure course with her as well.”
Fediuk started CF Aesthetics from her own bedroom in Sept. 2021, while she was still in high school. She said it was an easy decision to locate her business in Canora.
“I lived in Canora my whole life. I’ve been in the heart of the community for as long as I could remember. I’ve seen this community consistently growing and wanted to be part of it.”
In addition to her nail and pedicure work, Fediuk also has experience working for Canora Photography.
She said she is thoroughly enjoying owning her own business.
“I have never owned my own business before this. I’ve always aspired to open up my own business and watch how it grows. Growing a business takes time and effort, kind of like growing a flower. You plant the seed and once you start to take care of it, beautiful things will happen.”
Having more freedom is one of Fediuk’s favourite aspects of owning her own business, including being in charge of deciding her own schedule.
Fediuk said the local interest in her business was strong pretty much right from the start. “It grew very quickly and still is growing!”
Shortly after opening her doors at the Main Street location, Fediuk was met with an unexpected obstacle that tested her determination to succeed.
“The greatest surprise I have had since I have started my business would be having to close my doors for seven weeks after I was in an accident back in June. It resulted in a broken collarbone and not able to use my right arm. It was a challenging and long process but I am now back and better than ever!”
Technically, Fediuk does not have any employees, but she is getting plenty of support from family members.
“I’m fully a sole proprietorship which means it is owned by one individual but, I do have to add a huge thank you to my mother Vanessa and the rest of my family for helping me along the way and helping me even be able to move into my new business location.”
If you haven’t guessed already, Fediuk is excited about the future of CF Aesthetics.
“I would love at some point to start bring other technicians in to help them grow their businesses and clientele. As of right now, I am going where my business takes me.”
