CANORA - At the heart of our reflections for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is the question posed by Jesus to Martha: ‘Do you believe this?’ (John 11:26). Here Jesus is asking Martha if she believes in the resurrection of the dead.
This same question resonated throughout the deliberations of the first Ecumenical Council, meeting in Nicaea in 325. The Nicene creed was at the centre of many of this week’s ecumenical prayer services.
A good turnout was experienced as we shared lunch and prayer at St Andrew’s United Church, Parkland Christian Centre, St Joseph’s R.C. Church, St. Peter and Paul U.C. Church and Gateway Community Church from Jan. 20-24.
The Prayer for Christian Unity Week in Canora began with an ecumenical service on Jan. 19 at the Curling Rink as part of Hockey Week in Canora, The Canora Ministerial Association planned these prayer services and capped off the week with an award of recognition to Pastor Greg and Carolyn Bright for their more than 30 years of service in Canora. A painting of the Last Supper was presented by Reverend Pastor Brett Watson on behalf of the Canora Ministerial Association.
