Lucky Lake to House Marijuana Facility

British Columbia producer eyeing opportunity in the province

While towns and larger urban areas decide on whether or not to allow cannabis retail outlets in their communities, one particular village will be home to a large facility that will in fact be growing marijuana.

The BC-based producer known as United Greeneries, a licensed company from Vancouver Island, has plans to open a marijuana facility in Lucky Lake, to be housed in a massive former potato plant building that was once owned by Spudco.

The facility was purchased back in 2014 as a strategic option in anticipation of a potential benefit to have a growing facility in the province.

Company spokesperson Colin Creely said the 62,000-square foot building is an ideal fit for growing their product and that United Greeneries has a solid track record when it comes to their production.

As of now, the company is in the process of receiving its final regulatory approval from the federal government, which could be received by the fall.  They also plan on adding to the building property in Lucky Lake by way of extra modular buildings, which could equal to roughly 80,000 square feet of growing space and total spending costs as high as $15 million in getting the space ready for production.

There will be about 30 full-time and part-time employment positions, but that might increase over time because the facility is located on 18 acres of land and there is room for more expansion.

It’s said that if everything goes according to the company’s plan, the Lucky Lake facility will create approximately 12,000 kg of dried marijuana every year.

United Greeneries says their extensive expansion plans will ideally bring their growing capacity from roughly 1,000 kg to over 75,000 kg of cannabis a year by the end of 2019, making them one of the largest producers in Canada.

With the recent announcement by the Saskatchewan government related to cannabis legalization, the company is now advancing the Lucky Lake facility through the final stages of approval with Health Canada and expects initial licensing under the ACMPR to occur in the third business quarter of 2018.

United Greeneries is a horticulture subsidiary of Harvest One Cannabis Inc. based out of Vancouver.
