WESTERN PRODUCER — Farm Credit Canada says it did not compile a list of clients under the Emergencies Act, contrary to a media report.
Blacklock's Reporter, a subscription-only service, reported that the Regina-based lender had begun to blacklist "customers suspected of sympathizing with the Freedom Convoy."
However, FCC issued a statement refuting that claim.
"FCC has not compiled any list with respect to the Freedom Convoy," said the statement.
"Prior to the Emergencies Act being revoked, FCC was working to understand how to implement the requirements of the act. No actions had been taken and, with the revocation of the act, no actions are anticipated."
Under the act, financial institutions were required to "cease dealing" with any customers who participated in or were associated with the convoy. The act was revoked two days after Parliament passed the motion to use it to clear Ottawa protesters.
Some farmers have posted on social media that their bank accounts had been frozen but did not identify which financial institution was involved. Others bashed FCC in response to the Blacklock's article.
A leaked list of Saskatchewan donors to a GiveSendGo fundraiser for the convoy included several farmers.
