A major Charolais cattle event will take place in Yorkton next week.

The Canadian Charolais Youth Association Conference & Show will take place Wednesday through Saturday at the Yorkton Exhibition grounds.

Some 75 cattle from youth exhibitors from Ontario to Alberta will attend, said Sarah Weinbender, Canadian Charolais Youth Association (CCYA) president and event chair from Canora.

鈥淚t鈥檚 the first time the Conference has been here,鈥 she said.

The show was last held in Saskatchewan in 2011, when it was hosted in Saskatoon.

While a focus of the event will be the show ring, there will also be an opportunity to gain knowledge on the cattle industry, with educational seminars set for Wednesday, including one by the Western Beef Development Centre, said Weinbender.

Provincial youth association meetings will be held Friday, and the CCYA annual general meeting Saturday.

As for the national show, it will include a range of classes for cattle, as well as classes such as grooming and showmanship for participants.

Cattle will begin to arrive in the city Tuesday.

The show judge will be Trent Leibrecht, formally of Yorkton, but now of Weyburn.

Conformation classes will be held Saturday afternoon.

An awards banquet will be held Saturday evening at the Gallagher Centre, said Weinbender, adding various 鈥渟cholarships are given out as well.鈥
