Bronze medal won in judo at 2023 Canada Winter Games

The medal is Saskatchewan’s first of week two and pushes Team Saskatchewan to 18 total medals.

REGINA - Saskatchewan is on the board at the 2023 Canada Winter Games for week two, earning a bronze in men’s Judo.

Ashton Debruyne of Vibank defeated B.C.’s Cole Priestman 10-0 in the bronze medal bout on Tuesday afternoon in front of a sold-out PEI Convention Centre. He was competing in the 66 kg male event.

“I was in shock,” Debruyne said immediately after his win. “It was a big amazement just hearing the crowd go wild after getting that last throw in there.”

The medal is Saskatchewan’s first of week two and pushes Team Saskatchewan to 18 total medals, now one more than the team earned at the Red Deer 2019 Canada Winter Games.
