WHL roundup: Kai Uchacz hat trick spurs Rebels to 5-3 win over Hitmen

CALGARY — Kai Uchacz notched a hat trick for the Red Deer Rebels in a 5-3 win over the host Calgary Hitmen on Sunday in the Western Hockey League. Uchacz scored his third of the game into an empty net to seal Red Deer's victory.

In Sunday's other games, the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-2 and the Prince Albert Raiders dumped the Regina Pats 5-2.

Red Deer's Jace Isley contributed a goal and an assist and Ollie Josephson also scored for the Rebels (26-6-1-3) atop the Central Division.

Goaltender Rhett Stoesser had 34 saves in the win.

HURRICANES 4 OIL KINGS 2

EDMONTON, Alta. — The visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes scored the game's first three goals then hung on to defeat the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-2.

Tristan Zandee, Cole Shepard and Tristen Doyle gave the Hurricanes (21-14-0-1) a 3-0 lead, then Rhett Melnyk and Gavin Hodnett scored third-period goals for the Oil Kings (4-32-1-0) to make it a one-goal game.

Brayden Edwards scored into an empty net with three seconds left in regulation to ice the game for the Hurricanes, who were outshot 33-29.

RAIDERS 5 PATS 2

REGINA, Sask. — Ryder Ritchie scored twice and Sloan Stanick had two assists as the Prince Albert Raiders defeated the host Regina Pats 5-2.

Niall Crocker, Hayden Pakkala and Carter Anderson also scored for the Raiders (12-20-3-0), who outshot the Pats 31-22.

Braxton Whitehead and Sam Oremba scored for the Pats (18-17-1-1), who trailed 2-0 after the first period and 5-1 heading in to the final frame.
