HIGH PRAIRIE, Alta. — Mounties in northern Alberta say a five-year-old boy died after being attacked by three dogs.

High Prairie RCMP say they received a report Sunday of the dog attack at a home on Whitefish First Nation.

They say residents had killed two dogs believed to be involved in the attack before officers arrived.

Officers then found a third dog and killed it.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Troy Savinkoff says two of the dogs are believed to have been pets and were Rottweiler mixes.

He says the boy was in foster care at the time of this death but could not confirm whether the child was being cared for by family or non-family members.

RCMP say an investigation is ongoing and so far no charges have been laid.

They say the boy’s body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the dogs have also been secured for forensic and medical testing.
