LAKE LOUISE, Alta. — Toronto's Jack Crawford posted the fastest time in Tuesday's first training run for the opening World Cup downhill race of the season.
Crawford finished in a time of one minute 49.08 seconds, which was .04 seconds faster than Italy's Mattia Casse.
Daniel Hemetsberger of Austria was third in 1:49.51. Broderick Thompson of Whistler, B.C., was 15th.
Crawford is coming off a successful season that saw him win bronze in alpine combined at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Training runs are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday before the downhill race Friday.
The World Cup ends with super G races Saturday and Sunday.
Lake Louise is serving as the season-opener for the World Cup's speed races after races scheduled for late October in Switzerland's Zermatt-Cervinia resort were cancelled due to warm weather.
